RECOMMENDED WEDDING DJ: DECKHEDS

Tell us a bit more about Deckheds and what you do?

Karl and Kate: Karl has been a club and festival DJ for over twenty-five years. For quite a few years his best friend who is a wedding dress designer kept telling him that her brides would often bemoan the lack of non-cheesy DJs that were available and the fear of the stereotypical wedding DJ with his bad jokes and that overplayed playlist that seems to have been stuck on a loop for decades. Karl was invited to DJ for fifty wedding photographers at a workshop and that night a plan was hatched and Deckheds was formed. Within five months of having the idea we did our first wedding and in less than three years we had already done over one-hundred weddings. Karl’s friend was right!

Karl does all the DJ’ing and Kate does all the admin but we respond to every couples enquiries together and every decision is a team decision. It’s a 100% ‘husband and wife’ company.

Do you have any advice for couples when choosing their awesome wedding playlist?

K+K: Open a bottle of something fizzy and have an evening going through records, CDs and MP3s. You will soon be transported to times in your lives that you treasure and the music from those days can form the basis of your requests. Add some tunes you love today and some of your friends and families favourites and there you have it, the soundtrack to your wedding. Oh and don’t be afraid to tell your DJ what you DON’T want to hear…it’s your day, it’s your music.

What is your favourite pizza topping?

K+K: Pepperoni!

Where else can we see Deckheds in action?

K+K: You can catch Karl at his weekly Indie/Retro club night at The Warehouse night club in Preston that famously played host to Joy Division & The Stone Roses plus hundreds of seminal bands. Annually, at Kendal Calling Festival where he is the resident DJ and closes the festival every year with the Late Night Indie Disco. Plus at various events that you can keep up with on our Deckheds Facebook page.

What’s the best thing about being a Deckhed?

K+K: Knowing that we played a big part in the happiest day of so many couples lives and that they will look back on it and remember the music that we played. We love that!
